New York City 2002 These
These are some pictures I took while Annette and I vacationed in Manhattan in October 2002. We had a great time on the trip, just relaxing and seeing the city.
I’m an incessant tweaker and never am happy with my results, though, so you haven’t gotten to see these until now. At some point, I guess, you just have to publish.
Comments, criticism, and suggestions are welcome. I’m just above beginner-level at both photography and photo editing, but it’s a fun hobby.

These files really shows the importance of color management and a proper working environment when working on visual media.
I worked on these mostly on an iBook — some, like the one of my wife, were corrected in complete darkness. Also, these were done at standard Mac gamma correction settings which makes them look far too dark on an average Windows PC. The combination of those two factors makes them look far from intended on a standard Windows PC; they don’t even look very good on that same iBook when in a well-lit environment.
I should have worked on them in proper lighting; also, I should have saved them as PNGs rather than JPEGs, probably — PNGs can embed gamma correction and other color profiling information in the file so that the displaying computer can at least attempt to show the images properly. I’m not sure, though, how well the various browsers and platforms support PNG, especially those “advanced” features.
For my next photographic project, I will look into PNG and use that, if appropriate for a wide enough audience. Also, maybe I’ll come back to these and update them one of these days.
