wordparts off-line

We’re closing on our new house on Monday, so while the phone company gets our service (including DSL) moved over to the new place, wordparts is probably going to be entirely offline. Such are the dangers of hosting yourself.

Allegedly it’ll only take a few days; but, last time, I believe it took nearly 6 weeks. My mileage may vary.

(If you’d like, e-mail me and I’ll let you know when it’s back online.)

Are Roman Catholics Christians?

Here’s an LA Magazine article (link only available this month) about Jack Chick, author and illustrator of most of those religious tracts that you find lying around. Or used to find… I haven’t seen one in a long time, now that I think about it.

I find this interesting — apart from the normal reasons one would find such a slice of our public consciousness interesting — because my 6th grade school class handed these tracts out “covertly” at a mall in downtown Fort Worth; also, they were what one was supposed to read when one got through with their work in that same class.

Oh, and I’ve at least twice found pamphlets under my windshield wiper from the “church” run by the Tony Alamo guy that’s mentioned. The most recent had a large picture on the front of a Miami Vice-style white jacket and big sunglasses wearing man with a caption underneath reading “Pastor Tony Alamo, circa 1986”. No explanation was given as to why, in circa 2002, the most recent available picture was from circa 16 years ago.

The Dark Half

I’m in California this week; here’s a creepy BBC article in the meantime.

I’ll have stories and photos to regale you with when I get back. (Of California, not phantom fetuses.) Of course, I say that, but I’ll probably never get around to posting anything.
