Ok. That video creeps me out. I think my left brain is too dominant when I watch that, because I’m trying to “figure it out” and I can’t. Did the Doll cause the wreck? And why is the song called Evil?

From MTV.com: “Directed by photographer Charlie White, the clip marks the first time the photogenic band won’t star in its own video. Instead, the protagonist will be a “Sesame Street”-style puppet created by the same animatronics wizards who worked on the films “Hellboy” and the forthcoming “Fantastic Four.” Injured and barely alive following a tragic accident, the puppet “sings” the lyrics to “Evil” to dramatize the song’s theme of losing one’s self after a trauma.”
Charlie White is the photographer that did the series Understanding Joshua.

I’d thought of Understanding Joshua when I saw the “Evil” video but hadn’t realized that the video was done by Charlie White, too. I found Joshua extremely moving… in a different way than “Evil”, though with some similarities.
There are several links to White’s work from the NPR link Annette posted above; this Egg episode covered Understanding Joshua, too.

This Video.. totally made the song. I heard the song.. i fell in love. then The video.. Wow… it just enhanced my love for the song.. tis now my absolute favorite song in teh whole world. Though i was confused on what went on in the video.. i still like it a Great deal… AWESOME VIDEO. Evil - By Interpol

Charlie White is pure genius. The first time i saw this video, i thought of his In A Matter Of Days series, Understanding Joshua series but mostly And Jeopardize The Integrity of The Hull series which depicts many puppets that look like the one in this video. Check it out.
